The Williams team have had everything this weekend. Pole position and Sir Frank Williams’ 70th birthday celebration yesterday, followed by the race win today was quite enough excitement already. But just when the weekend was supposed to be winding down, a fire broke out in the Williams garage at the Circuit de Catalunya.
Thought to be fuel and KERS related, the blaze spewed thick smoke into the pitlane. Nearby teams, including Caterham and Force India, came to the Williams team’s aid, and thanks to their action, plus that of local firefighters and FIA personnel, no-one was seriously injured, although 31 people were treated at the medical centre following the incident.
