Ferrari have revealed the name of their new Formula One car. The 2013 car that Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa will drive will be called the F138. “F” for Ferrari, “13” for 2013 and “8” as a tribute to the V8 engines that will be replaced at the end of this season after powering the cars for eight seasons.
The F138 will be the 59th F1 car built by Ferrari, and carries the hopes of the sport’s most successful team and its supporters. Ferrari is the only team to have competed in every season since the inception of the Formula One World Championship in 1950, and since then the famous Prancing Horse has collected 16 Constructors’ and 15 Drivers’ Championships, 219 race victories, 207 pole positions and 228 fastest laps – all of those achievements are records in Formula One.
Ferrari will unveil the F138 in Maranello, Italy on Friday 1 February, before the car travels to Jerez, Spain for the start of testing on Tuesday.
